An enduring love story.
A mysterious flower delivery. A visitor from the past.
André and Madeleine have loved each other for decades. Their marriage has been their sanctuary, their safe haven at the center of life’s storm. When their daughters come to visit for the weekend, they find that the foundation is slipping away. Nothing is as it seems, as the layers of their lives are slowly peeled away. Florian Zeller’s intimate play explores the intricacies of family life, love, and loss.
“I try to construct little labyrinths in which the audience member tries to find out where they are. You hunt down the truth, but as soon as you think you’re able to grab hold of it, it takes on another form and slips through your fingers … For me the theatre is above all the place for questions, not answers. For doubt more than certainty or conviction.” Florian Zeller

This compelling narrative, steeped in elements of social hierarchy, femininity, and brutality, is a masterpiece from the celebrated author Margaret Atwood, famously known for her creation 'The Handmaid's Tale'. Atwood's candid and unvarnished portrayal of the saga of the Odyssey, viewed through the lens of Penelope and the Maids, delves into the realm of hardship and despair that was life for women in the era of ancient Greece. This narrative brings to the fore, the societal and psychological ordeals faced by women.
These performances, featuring an all-women cast, launches the celebration of Women's History Month at the West Sacramento Black Box Theater. Tickets for this enlightening experience can be procured at http://www.womenstheatrecollective.org/ for just $25.
Notably, these performances are part of a noble fundraising effort, and as such, no discounts are available.
The celebration of Women's History Month at the West Sacramento Black Box Theater is more than just a commemoration of women's contributions throughout history. It also serves as a medium to raise awareness about the ongoing struggle for gender equality. By attending this performance, audiences have the chance to support a worthy cause while witnessing a thought-provoking and emotionally stirring production.
Initiatives such as this cannot be overstated. They play a vital role in amplifying women's voices and highlighting the often overlooked facets of their experiences. Through the medium of art and storytelling, we can challenge societal norms, ignite conversations, and drive change. Join us at the West Sacramento Black Box Theater for an unforgettable evening celebrating women's resilience, strength, and power.

Voices of the Golden Ghosts, the performance collective from Shasta and Siskiyou Counties, will perform the untold history of African Americans in the California Gold Rush.
Within a few years of the first discovery of gold, miners had arrived from all corners of the globe. By 1852, over 2,000 people of African American descent were in the California gold fields. Today, little is ever mentioned about the free and enslaved black men and women who lived by pick and shovel.
Through the lens of contemporary storytelling, theater, and lecture, we reconstruct the lives of these African Americans.

WHERE SOULS GROW WILD: A THEATRICAL TRIPTYCH reveals the human spirit struggling against formidable odds. At the center of each of three short plays are women raging, bending, and breaking against the inescapable structures and demands of their lives. Trapped by worlds in which they have little power, the souls of these women are driven to wildness as they fight for survival and happiness. Although each of these pieces was written over 100 years ago, the struggle for women to achieve power, fulfillment, and self-determination feels strikingly relevant today. WHERE SOULS GROW WILD weaves poetry and original music among the three plays for a moving and thought-provoking theatrical experience. Audiences are invited to join cast and crew for a happy hour after each performance to discuss the show and future Happy Hour Theatre endeavors.
